In a statement issued here, Mr. Yusuf A. Sheikh, the president of the Forum who is also a noted Konkani poet and writer has said that Mr. Faleiro, the former Union minister hailing from the state, is the only living legend whose name find place in the glossary of eminent Goans along with T. B. Cunha, Francisco Luis Gomes, Bhau Daiji Laad and others who commanded tremendous respect and love of the Goan community.
Mr. Sheikh has further said that Goan literature, including Goan poetry, bloomed and so also prestigious Dnyanpith awards could be conferred upon Konkani literary luminaries after Eduardo Faleiro played pivotal role in getting the language included in the eighth schedule of Indian constitution. "His initiative could also bring much awaited statehood to Goa", he added. Mr. Yusuf Sheikh called upon Govt. of Goa to constitute a high power committee in association of literary and social organizations to honour Mr. Faleiro with life time achievement award, the first of its kind to a person in public life. "Mr. Faleiro, today stands tallest amongst those in politics of the State and is an inspiring force to the future Nation builders", he observed.
Mr. Ashok Chodankar, the Secretary of the GPF said that the Forum would urge Goa Chief Minister, Mr. Digambar Kamat to invite the President of India to honour and felicitate this high profile citizen. "Mr. Faleiro is engaged in serving Goan community restlessly for more than 5 decades in different capacities and has proved to be "dukh harta" of those in trouble. Presently as NRI commissioner he has been doing commendable job for which Goans and the persons of Goan origin abroad are immensely indebted to him", said Mr. Chodankar.
