Goa can be a model state for UIDAI project: Kamat

Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamaton Thursday said that the state can be a model for the unique identification number programme scheduled to be undertaken by the Central Government. Kamat said that during his Delhi visit on Wednesday he had a word with newly formed Unique Identification Database Authority of India, chairman Nandan Nilekani over this project.
“I have put across him the idea of considering Goa as amongst the various areas to be covered as a model under this project,” he said. “Nilekani has already short-listed some districts in Karnataka for the UIDAI pilot project. I have suggested him to include the state of Goa in his list too,” the Chief Minister said. Some of the districts in Karnataka are as big as Goa, he said.
The UIDAI aims to develop a system through which all citizens are allotted a unique identification number by 2011. Kamat said that he would be meeting Nilekani over this issue again in near future.
