Centre releases Rs 5-cr to Goa as flood relief fund

Central Government agreed to sanction Rs five crore to Goa today as relief fund after its Canacona taluka faced its worst ever floods last weekend.

Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi and apprised him of the situation, a government spokesman said.

The Prime Minister has agreed to release Rs five crore as immediate relief to Goa Government to overcome the situation, spokesman said.

Singh told Kamat to prepare a detailed report of the damage caused due to floods and heavy rains and forward it to the ministry of home affairs within two days.

After that a Central team will be sent to Goa to assess the damage.

“The Prime Minister has assured Kamat maximum financial aid for the state,” the spokesman added.
