CM urged to address local film producers’ demands

Fatorda MLA and film producer, Damu Naik has demanded that Chief Minister Digambar Kamat immediately take note of the plight of the local film producers, failing which he feared that the film culture in Goa may receive a major setback.

Naik, who has recently launched his maiden film production venture in the name of Shree Dambabalem Ghodem for Konkani film Zaagor, said the Entertainment Society of Goa, which is supposed to be the nodal agency for all film related activities and which claims to be working for promotion of Goan film producers is actually harassing the local upcoming film producers and all its actions are in line with discouraging the budding talent from Goa.

Saying that he fully understands the pains of making a film, Naik said he would fully stand by the film producers who are fighting to get justice, while demanding that the government immediately convene a meeting of all film producers to address their long pending demands. Naik warned that the film producers will not have any other option but to expose the hidden agenda of ESG during the forthcoming IFFI.

"Entertainment Society of Goa recently issued me a letter to deposit an amount of Rs 1.50 lakh towards fees for shooting at various locations in Goa for 25 days, costing Rs 6000 per day", he said, adding that he do not understand how ESG can ask for such deposits when the Chief Minister has made amply clear that the local film producers will not be charged any fees for shooting in Goa. "The shooting policy of ESG also has provisions to exempt local Konkani film producers from any charges', he added.

Expressing surprise over the authority of the ESG to demand and collect such fees when the Film Finance scheme is in dormant state, Naik said the ESG should first try to place its house in order before making tall claims of promoting the budding film producers of Goan origin. "ESG CEO Major Srivastava is aware of my production of Konkani film Zagor, which was actually launched by him with a Muharat clap", he added.
