Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in India on Monday with the sighting of the moon. "The moon was sighted tonight and Id will be celebrated tomorrow," a spokesperson of Fatehpuri Masjid said quoting the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Mufti Mohd Mukarram Ahmed.
Id-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan, which commenced on August 21. The president, the vice-president and the prime Minister on Sunday greeted the nation on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, hoping the festival would inspire the people to follow the path of love, compassion and tolerance.
"Id-ul-Fitr brings joy and happiness at the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan. May this festival strengthen mutual goodwill and inspire each one of us to follow the path of love, compassion and tolerance," President Pratibha Patil said. The Prime Minister also extended Id-ul-Fitr greetings.
