College and School Children be informed about cyber crimes : Goa MP

Government should organize seminars and literacy programmes on CyberCrimes to acquaint college and school going children about the seriousness of Cyber Crime Offences, said Mr. Shantaram Naik M.P. at Margao on Tuesday.Mr. Naik, who was inaugurating a computer laboratory of Konkani Bhash Mandal commissioned with the MPLADS funds and Rotary Club's assistance, further said that Information Technology Act 2000, which has been amended in the year 2008, specifies severe punishment from 3 to 5 years of imprisonment relating to misuse of internet and transfer of data and images.

Legal Aid Committees in their Legal Literacy Drive should include a project of making people aware of these crimes, which young students and other computers savvy people, may commit knowingly or unknowingly.

Mr. Naik said that e-libraries full of e-books, side by side with hard copies of books , will be common in the country in the next few years and Goa cannot be an exception.

Mr. Naik said that some institutions with the help of the government are developing software to translate data from English into Indian languages, to start with, languages mentioned in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

Mr. Naik said that 3G services have started on trial basis in Goa and in a few days time the service will be formally commissioned. This service will make downloading of data on the mobiles faster besides one will be able to see not less than 10 channels on their mobiles on the payment of reasonable fees.

Students who secured high marks at recent Xth standard examination and who had taken their primary education through Konkani, were felicitated on the occasion.

Mr. Ashish Keni, President of Rotary Club of Margao explained various social schemes of the club.

Mr. Prashant Naik, President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, gave welcome speech. Gunaji Desai introduced the Chief Guest.

Mr. Pandarinath parab proposed a vote of thanks while Mrs. Sugandha Vadolkar, compered the proceedings of the meeting.
