Goa Govt to seek opinion on loud music

With night music coming under the High Court scanner and the police cracking a whip on loud music after 10 pm, the government has decided to seek the opinion of the Law Commission to work out a solution to the impasse created by the Madhya Pradesh Act over restrictions on loud music.
Affected parties have decided to call on State Environment Minister Alexio Sequeira with a plea to take up the matter with Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh to grant at least two hour relaxation in playing loud music given that tourism is the main stay of Goan industry.
Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat told Herald that he would discuss the matter with the Chairman of Goa Law Commission, Ramakant Khalap and other members and seek a report on how to go about the matter.
Kamat made the comment when his attention was drawn to the whip being cracked by police on music at weddings, tiatr and musical evenings. "I will discuss the matter with the Goa Law Commission how to remedy the situation", Kamat told Herald today.
Wedding receptions and other entertainment programmes in the jurisdiction of the Cuncolim police station, have suddenly come under the scanner of the Cuncolim police with the men-in-uniform physically stopping music at 10 pm as per the Madhya Pradesh Act.
Sources in the police department said the sudden action comes against the backdrop of the petition filed by a non-governmental organization against Socco's Creative Farm, Chinchinim for playing host to wedding receptions and for playing music beyond 10 pm.
The situation has sent shivers in the spine of the stake holders in the entertainment industry, including dance floor owners, event managers, musical bands etc as the action comes at a time when the state is heralding the tourist and wedding season.
In this context, sources in the know said the stake holders have decided to call on the Environment Minister, Alexio Sequeira to take up the matter with Union Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh to grant minimum two hour relaxation in the timings from 10 pm to 12 pm.
