Show cause notice to NDTV on Pati Patni….: MP,Goa

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Smt. Krishna Tirath informed Mr. Shantaram Naik M.P. in the Rajya Sabha today, that, the case of the Reality Show, Pati Patni Aur Who aired on NDTV Imagine Channel, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a Show Cause Notice on 6.10.2009 as it appeared that the Reality Show denigrated and children and that there was indecent exploitation of them .

The minister further informed Mr. Naik that, there are a total of 4 complaints received by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) directly as well as through the Ministry of Women and Child Development. These complaints are alleging emotional trauma, separation, anxiety, stress, lack of rest, leisure, sleep disorder etc. to children, in 3 Reality Shows/TV Programmes.

The NCPCR has taken cognizance of these complaints and has initiated action to satisfy whether the allegations made are violating child rights. At the same time, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has constitutes an Inter-Ministerial Committee to look into specific complaints and satisfy if they are violative of the Programme Code prescribed under Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, 19995 and the rules framed there under, Mr. Naik was informed.

Minister further informed Mr. Naik that, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has also constituted the Review Committee for reviewing the existing Programmes and Advertising Codes prescribed under the above Act and Rules.
