The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, has said that states have been told to take adequate steps to strengthen the internal security even as he said that he has demanded Rs 5 crore from the Centre for purchase of 50 police control room vehicles and to modernise the police force. Mr Kamat, who returned to the state after attending the meeting called by the Union government on internal security, said that the central authorities also directed the state to take steps to improve internal security and modernise the police forces in their states.
The Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Kumar Shrivastava who also attended the meeting has said that the Centre has directed all the states to strengthen internal security to deal with the threats posed by the "enemies within" even as the coastal states have been also asked to take adequate steps to improve the security along the coasts. Stating that the central government has assured full assistance to the coastal states to fortify the coastal security, he went on to add that states have been promised modern boats for patrolling the coasts.
As regards to the meeting on controlling the rising food prices, he said that states were asked to take proactive steps to control the escalating prices to give relief to the common man. He said that the state delegation gave a brief of the steps taken by the authorities to provide relief to the common man. Asked to comment on the overtures by the Karnataka government for holding talks to find solution to the Mhadei water issue, the Chief Secretary also said that the Chief Minister has already said that the state would not dilute its stand on the issue and has also ruled out any talks on it.
