A co-ordination committee has been constituted by the government with the director of technical education Mr Vivek Kamat as its co-ordinator, for setting up of the National Institute of Technology in the state. The other officials on the panel include the director of higher education, Mr Bhaskar Nayak, the South Goa Collector, Mr G P Naik and the assistant directors of technical education, namely Dr Dipak Gaitonde and Mr Vivek Belokar.
The duties of the committee include apprising the state government of the project and moving for necessary government/cabinet approvals, co-ordinating with the Ministry of Human Resource Development/director of NITK, Surathkal and other central government agencies for necessary actions that is formation of society, constitution of boards of governors, appointment of director, budget provision, drafting of statutes and ordinances, etc, identification of permanent location/site and acquiring the said land for handing over to NIT, Goa, identifying temporary premises for the initial years of operation with effect from 2010-2011, identifying various courses to be offered in NIT, Goa and facilitating recruitment of core faculty, initially.
The committee will also be in charge of formulating budget proposal for recurring and non-recurring items of expenditure for the financial year 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, devising a Master Plan for NIT Goa by availing services of suitable agencies and finally, undertaking any other activity relevant to project implementation.
