Defend dignity and honour of Goa in Maratha spirit

Goans should adopt the maratha spirit of courage and bravery to fight the evils in the society and defend the honour ,dignity of the State and its people, the Shivaji way said Mr Shantaram Naik M.P. at Mapuca on Friday.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at Shiv Jayanti ceremony held under the auspices of Bardez Tatuka Shivjayanti Samiti, Shri Naik said there is no parallel found to the warrior qualities of Shivaji in the world history as other warrior who made name in the history had, comparatively large armies to achieve their goals but Shivaji achieved success with a few handful of his trusted men.

Goa does not have extra-territorial designs but Goa needs to be protected from land grabbers and cultural invaders and maratha spirit of courage and determination , can be helpul in this regard.

We have to encourage tourism and tourists without which our economy perhaps may not substain, but, Mr Naik said, we should always keep in our mind that some three centuries back India was interested in trade and so British traders came to India to trade in spices who took 150 long years to" finish selling their masala". Mr Naik said that stories of braveries of Shivaji Maharaj must find a place in Primary school text books . Mr. Naik said that in the name of historical writings a few had tried to defame and denigrade Shivaji and there were strong protests in Maharashtra over the issue but, if any such issue arises again Goans should not lag behind in coming to the streets.

Adv. Amrut Kansar, who was a special Guest of Honour said that Shivaji Maharaj was a great human being and a national hero.

Shri Kansar said that unfortunately the honour and respect that Napoleon got in the world history, Shivaji Maharaj could not get it on account of non cooperation of some people including Surve Sawants from Maharashtra and Ranes from Goa. He said that documents which are lying in he Historical Archives of the Portugal, should be studied to clear the contradictions.

Mrs.. Rupa Bhakta, President of Mapusa Municipal Council also addressed the gathering. At the outset, Shri Gurudas Natekar, President of Bardez Taluka Shiv Jayanti Samitee gave welcome speech. Shri Vishwas Nagvekar introduced the guests while Shri Umesh Sawant compared the proceedings of the meeting while Shri Shambhu Bhau Bandekar proposed a vote of thanks.
