Goa: Corporation of the City of Panaji
Mr Elvis Gomes, the commissioner of the CCP, who presided over the election process, informed that the opposition group consisting of eight corporators had demanded that election be held by secret ballot, which he rejected as it did not fit in the rules, and that there was no precedent in the corporation of holding election by secret ballot. He also said that municipal council rules were not applicable to the CCP. He said that the opposition group then staged a walk out. He also said that opposition group had earlier filed the nomination of Mr Menino Cruz for the post of mayor and Ms Vaidehi Naik for the post of deputy mayor.
Mr Gomes then conducted the election, where 22 corporators were present and all of them voted for the candidates fielded by the ruling group, Ms Po and Mr Parekh. He further said that various committees of the corporation like the standing committee, public health, market and women and child welfare were formed thereafter.
