Goa to get Chapper for beach safety

Centre has assured Goa to provide helicopter for beach patrolling disclosed Governor Dr S S Siddhu in his customary address to the Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday afternoon to mark the beginning of budget session of Goa Legislative assembly at Assembly complex at Porvorim.

While talking about law and order situation in Goa, Governor said that, this year by and large, law and order situation in the state remained under control. Total 1861 cases detected of the 3005 cases reported. Police department has increased patrolling in order to curb crimes. Strength of Homeguards enhanced to 750. Fire and emergency services in Goa, saved 230 human lives and 236 animal, governor said.

Process for selecting consultant for proposed Panaji to Vasco sea-link is on. Further works will be carried out after availing the report from consultant, Governor noted. Finance commission has sanctioned Rs 100 crores for primary works related to proposed international airport at Mopa. Centre has sanctioned Rs 500 crores for upgradation of Dabolim, he informed the house.

All together more than 7 lakhs vehicles are registered in Goa. Road safety devices will be provided to bring down the rate of accidents. Ultra modern bus stand at Margao and Ravindra bhavan will be constructed at Mapusa, Governor added.

Government poultry farm has been upgraded on modern lines. 5666 identity cards have been issued to fishermen. Finalisation of new Regional Plan is a thrust area of government. Special national games cell has been set up. Eleven municipalities are in a process of selecting garbage treatment sites. 35 lok seva centres are operational in Goa. By 1st April electronic filling of tax returns will commence. Also IT education will commence shortly, he expressed confidence.

Excise dept has collected revenue of Rs 88 crores. Work of resurvey will be completed by October 2010, he further added.
