Goa to go ahead with high security registration plates

Goa will soon become third state to have high security registration plates (HSRP) even as a report submitted by Srivastava committee on its implementation is hanging fire. “We are implementing HSRP in the state. Goa is third state in the country to do so,” Transport Director Venancio Furtado said this morning. Furtado said there are lot of advantages attached with HSRP. As of now, only new vehicles will have HSRP while the proposal to make it compulsory even for old vehicles is kept on hold, he said.

Transport department’s decision comes a month after Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava-led committee submitted its report on implementation of HSRP to the government. The state has decided to charge Rs 1,850 to install an HSRP on a four-wheeler and Rs 550 on a two-wheeler.
