Over seven lakh voters across Goa will decide the fate of the 195 candidates who have filed their nominations for the forthcoming zilla panchayat elections which will be held on March 7. The commissioner of the state Election Commission, Mr P M Borkar informed that in all 7,25,272 voters are eligible to participate in the ZP elections.
In North Goa, 4,53,209 voters will decide the fate of 119 candidates who are contesting for 30 seats. Similarly, in South Goa 2,72,063 voters will decide the fate of 76 candidates even as the election campaign is gaining momentum and the aspirants trying their level best to woo the voters. Mr Borkar informed that there are 1,35,087 male voters in South Goa while the number of female voters is 1,36,976. In North Goa there are 2,27,841 male voters and 2,25,368 female voters. The number of polling stations in North Goa is 661 while South Goa has 356 polling stations.
Mr Borkar further informed that the voter list was updated by the election commission as on November 1, 2009, which has been used to create constituency-wise voters' list for this year's ZP elections. Sancoale, which is the constituency with the most number of voters in South Goa, also has the highest number of female voters in South Goa with 9,552 women of the total 20,289 voters while Fatorpa constituency has the lowest number of voters which is 8,828.
Similarly, in North Goa Curti constituency has the highest number of voters which is 22,099 while Cudnem has the lowest number of 7,367 voters. The highest number of women voters in North Goa is in Aldona constituency which has 11,088 women voters.
