The high court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday suggested that the state may look at hiring retired army personnel to patrol beaches to ensure tourist security.
Referring to the recent molestation of a Russian minor at Arambol, a bench comprising Justices N H Patil and N A Britto expressed concern over the safety of tourists and asked the advocate general to inform the court what steps the government has taken in this regard. The court also asked the AG why Goa had no all-women police stations.
The AG said lifeguard services have been outsourced to a private firm and that he would inform the court on the security aspect after seeking instructions from the government.
